Twilight Concert Series: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

I saw Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros in concert last Thursday when they played the Twilight Concert Series. I knew about the band but I never took the time to actually listen to them. So I decided not to youtube their music and instead discover them live as I had heard a lot of good things about them. I'm glad I did that because I really liked them. Here are a few pics I took of the concert.

Amy Winehouse

I was saddened by the news that Amy Winehouse was found dead at her home in London.  She was such a talented artist it's a shame that she died at age 27. I have been a huge fan of hers for years regardless of her highly publicized personal problems. I'm sad that I never got to see her perform live.

I remember buying this issue of Rolling Stone when I saw it on a newsstand back in 2007. I still have it and have read it a few times over the years. Here is one of my favorite songs by her Love is a Losing Game. May she rest in peace.

Twilight Concert Series: The Decemberists

The Twilight Concert Series are free concerts held on Thursday evenings in July and August in Salt Lake City since 2006. I had a lot of fun going last year and had every intention of going back this year. I saw artists such as Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Matisyahu, and Big Boi among others. I went last week to the opening concert but I got there late. And I missed  the No Age set and left because I really didn't care for Explosions in the Sky the main act. Yesterday a near-record crowd of 36,000 went to see The Decemberists with Typhoon opening. I took some really crappy pics of The Decemberists but I found these online that are of a much better quality.

Midnight in Paris

I just saw the lovely film Midnight in Paris directed by Woody Allen. I really liked this movie I found it funny and entertaining. Gil is a writer who travels to Paris with his fiance Inez and falls for the city. He thinks the 1920's in Paris was the Golden Age. An era of talented artists and writers. When he takes a walk one night at midnight is when his adventure begins.

Owen Wilson plays Gil,  a screenwriter who idolizes the past.

Gil is in Paris with his unpleasant fiance Inez (Rachel McAdams) .

Marion Cotillard plays Adriana Gil's love interest.

A cameo by France's first lady, Carla Bruni who plays a museum tour guide.
